Aquarium Director

North Carolina Aquarium At Fort Fisher

The North Carolina Aquariums is seeking an enthusiastic team member to be part of the Aquarium management team! The Aquarium Director is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the operations, budget, and staff of the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.

Experience Required
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Qualified candidates must have or be able to:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of public standards and trends at an aquarium, zoo, museum, park, nature center or related facility, as well as principles of marine ecology, marine biology, and or science education.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management, which includes monitoring budget and receipts, implementing annual plans, and/or procuring goods and services to meet program needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in conservation and informal education in an aquarium, zoo, museum, park, nature center or related facility.
  • Demonstrated ability in interaction with leadership, community groups, advisory committees, researchers and/or the general public.
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic planning and goal setting.
Management Preferences:
  • Experience managing large, complex projects exceeding $1 million.
  • Experience providing public presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bachelor s degree in marine science, biology, zoology, science education or related field from an appropriately accredited institution AND six years of management and administrative/supervisory experience at an aquarium, museum, zoo or related facility.
