Aquarium Educator

We are seeking a passionate (full-time) Aquarium Educator to engage guests and students with interactive, science-based learning experiences. Educators play a key role in delivering our mission, both at the Aquarium and throughout Utah, by leading educational programs, demonstrations, and interpretive experiences for visitors of all ages. This position involves working both on-site and off-site, delivering programs to schools and community groups.

  • At Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, we bring Earth’s ecosystems to life. Since opening our Draper facility in 2014, we have welcomed over 10 million visitors and provided educational experiences to more than 650,000 students.
  • With a major expansion underway, we’re on track to become the largest aquarium in the Mountain West and one of the top five in the country.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, science-based presentations at the Aquarium and in Utah schools (Pre-K – high school)
  • Interact with visitors, answer questions, and provide hands-on learning experiences
  • Develop and present educational activities, demonstrations, and learning stations
  • Safely handle and present small animals, including reptiles and insects
  • Prepare and organize materials for programs, camps, and field trips
  • Travel to schools, set up presentations, and return materials to the Aquarium
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Assist in special events and educational programs as needed
  • Uphold the Aquarium’s mission and values in all interactions
Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience engaging with children or public audiences in an educational setting
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively share complex scientific information
  • Willingness to learn about zoology, marine science, and environmental education
Preferred:
  • College coursework or a degree in biology, zoology, marine science, education, or a related field strongly preferred
  • Experience in STEM education, museum or aquarium interpretation, or guest engagement
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to go through an additional background check required by the UT Public Local Education Agency (LEA)
  • A valid Utah driver’s license, or the willingness to acquire one within 30 days of hire date, is required. Ability and willingness to drive long distances. Ability to operate company vehicles and follow vehicle protocol. Must keep a favorable driving record and be willing to permit a periodic review of your driving record, if necessary
  • Must be comfortable working under a wide range of temperature (30-90+°F), noise, and light conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to meet driving and background requirements
Schedule
  • Includes weekends, evenings, and holidays (excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas)
  • Full-time schedule consists of 4x10-hour shifts per week, with shifts starting as early as 6:30 AM or ending as late as 11:00 PM
  • Schedule may vary seasonally based on educational programming needs
  • Travel is required at least twice per year (2-6 days) for school outreach visits.
