Aquatic Presentation Technician

SUMMARY: The Aquatic Presentation Technician is a key member of the Aquatic Presentation Team which produces live events for Shedd patrons. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, using and maintaining Presentation hardware, for example, video switch equipment, cameras, and spotlights used during rehearsals, daily presentations, and special events; making sure equipment communicates with each other and within the show system software; keeping a log of all equipment issues and resolutions; and following Covid-19 protocols. The Aquatic Presentation Technician will assist other members of the Aquatic Presentation Team when needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with other Aquatic Presentation (AP) Team members, Aquatic Presentation Programmers and Design and Exhibit and Oceanarium Team members, and other stakeholders in the aquarium. 
  • Participate in after Shedd closing rehearsals, presentations, and special events. 
  • Use and maintain video consoles and remote cameras. 
  • Use and maintain a manual camera and tripod. 
  • Work with and be directed by Video Switcher during rehearsal, daily presentations, and special events. 
  • Use and maintain LED spotlights. 
  • Be familiar with laser projectors. 
  • Be familiar with various software like QLab, Playback Pro, and Watchout. 
  • Upload media into the AP software system. 
  • Present media on screen(s) when needed. 
  • Assist the Stage Manager and/or Production Manager in maintaining the AP computers 
  • Research resolutions to hardware issues and work with the Production Manager and AP Programmers to find solutions. 
  • Assist with records and documentation. 
  • Adhere to OSHA and ADA regulations and procedures as they relate to your position’s duties. 
  • Walk on a tension grid above the audience seating and pool habitat. 
  • Climb ladders and rocky surfaces. 
  • Assist outside contractors. 
QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience. 
Experience:  
  • Minimum 3 years experience in technical theater or equivalent experience 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Experience working live shows is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, a team player, self-motivated, and able to deal with ongoing multiple projects. 
COMPUTER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
  • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, demonstration, and database software (i.e., Word, Excel) 
  • Basic knowledge of QLab, Playback Pro, Medialon, and Watchout. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
