Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is looking for an individual who wants to be part of a team that plays an important role in the operations of our facilities. The primary duties of a Building Engineer 1 are the routine maintenance of building mechanical systems and assisting with other mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) maintenance operations as assigned. This position reports directly to the Building Engineering Supervisor.
Duties, Responsibilities, and Essential Functions (included but not limited to):
- Responsible for supporting various building engineering projects including but not limited to public buildings, animal holding areas, animal displays, offices, and visitor areas.
- Conducts daily inspection of the property and informs supervisor of any deficiencies.
- Performs daily preventative maintenance on HVAC systems including filter replacement, checking and replacing v-belts, bearing greasing, and coil cleaning.
- Conducts the daily operations and makes minor repairs to HVAC systems and controls, elevator systems, life safety systems, and emergency power systems under the direct supervision of a Senior Building Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Chief Engineer.
- Works with and escorts outside contractors as needed.
- Responds immediately to emergencies and work orders.
- Complies with all applicable codes and company policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Human relations and effective communication skills.
- Ability to use a computer to complete daily tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work as a team or independently.
- Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work weekends and extended periods for priority/emergencies (including overtime assignments).
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop kneel and crouch. Must have the ability to lift and move 50 lbs.
- Frequently exposed to water, chemicals, loud noises, dust, animal dander, etc.
- Must be able to traverse zoo grounds on foot.
- Occasionally exposed to potentially adverse weather conditions.
