The Digital Marketing Specialist is responsible for supporting and advancing the digital ecosystem of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park. With a focus on user experience and performance-driven content, this role ensures that web, email, and digital campaigns drive guest engagement, strengthen member relationships, and elevate brand storytelling across platforms.

  • This individual combines an understanding of marketing strategy, UX/UI best practices, and data analytics to optimize content delivery and engagement.
  • The Digital Marketing Specialist will lead efforts to streamline systems, develop scalable digital workflows, and transform how digital channels support admissions, membership, education, events, and guest experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and update website content for the Zoo and Safari Park, optimizing navigation, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility.
  • Execute and maintain integrated digital campaigns across web and email platforms to support admissions, membership, education, and events.
  • Monitor campaign and site performance using tools like Google Analytics and provide reports and insights to guide content improvements and conversion strategies.
  • Build and manage email campaigns using segmentation, automation, and behavioral data to support audience engagement across the lifecycle including acquisition, renewal, and re-engagement.
  • Maintain documentation of digital workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CMS, email, and asset management systems.
  • Manage the digital asset library (DAM), ensuring content is organized, searchable, and aligned with brand guidelines.
  • Keep key guest-facing pages such as “Today at the Zoo” updated with accurate and timely information related to events, availability, and daily operations.
  • Collaborate with teams across Membership, Education, Guest Services, and IT to ensure digital content reflects current programming and priorities.
  • Support SEO and paid media initiatives by optimizing content structure, metadata, and landing pages.
  • Stay up to date with digital trends, tools, and user behavior to recommend enhancements that improve experience and engagement.
  • Evaluate and manage digital platforms, including CMS and email systems (e.g., Wordfly), while supporting the RFP process for potential new tools and development partners.

  • Leverage analytics tools to identify performance trends, A/B test variables, and refine digital experiences based on real-time feedback and engagement metrics.
Scalable Systems & Workflow Management:
  • Develop sustainable digital processes and asset management systems to support team efficiency, digital governance, and consistent content delivery.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated success in designing and optimizing digital marketing programs that drive engagement, conversions, and business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of UX/UI principles and digital accessibility (ADA compliance).
  • Experience managing and integrating tools including CMS platforms, email marketing systems, DAM systems (e.g., Canto), and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics 4).
  • Ability to create intuitive content maps, user flows, and wireframes to inform digital development.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity, conversion, and brand alignment.
  • Strong project management and communication skills with the ability to coordinate across departments and external vendors.
  • Ability to synthesize data and develop actionable insights for digital growth.
  • Familiarity with SEO strategies and integration into content workflows.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) to support strategic planning, team communication, and compelling presentation of creative initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position does not currently supervise full-time staff but will serve as a key collaborator and project lead with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Digital Design, Web Development, or a related field; continuing education or certifications in UX/UI, digital strategy, or analytics platforms is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in digital marketing, with a demonstrated track record of leading integrated digital campaigns, managing web content, and optimizing user experience across channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute data-informed digital strategies, including web optimization, email marketing, and SEO.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMS platforms, email marketing systems (e.g., Wordfly or similar), digital asset management (e.g., Canto), and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics 4).
  • Skilled in UX/UI design principles, including ADA compliance and mobile-first development best practices.
  • Experience with digital workflow management and content governance systems to ensure consistency, efficiency, and brand alignment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate data and digital insights into actionable strategies for diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Works in an office setting but frequently conducts on-site visits to both the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park.
  • This may include indoor and outdoor areas.
  • The position typically involves regular office hours, but it can also demand flexibility to address issues or emergencies that may arise outside typical working hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Position requires occasional lifting and carrying of items, equipment, or supplies. Usually, 25lbs or less.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach upward, twist, and have good lateral movement.
Travel Required:
  • Ability to travel to attend annual job-related conferences or other zoo-related functions.
