Dive Safety Officer

  • Salary: $55,000 - $65,000
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assure facility compliance of all applicable diving regulations including but not limited to OSHA, AAUS and RSTC standards
  • Maintain safety standards and controls on all aspects of facility diving
  • Supervisor for the individuals that comprise The Deep Blue Sea Foundation Volunteer Dive Team in cooperation with the Deep Blue Sea Foundation Volunteer Coordinator
Member of Dive Control Board
  • Development (as appropriate) and implementation of Dive Safety Manual(s) and Operational Manuals
  • Establishment and implementation of dive protocols for all exhibits
  • Responsible for dive safety and dive related training and documentation for all Staff, Volunteers and contractors as appropriate.
  • Oversee all safety aspects of all daily Dive Operations, volunteer and guest immersion divers and programs
  • Supports staff and volunteer husbandry dives and shows as appropriate in coordination with facility Curators, Life Sciences Manager and Dive Program Manager 
Requirements:
  • 3 years experience as ADSO or equivalent position from a public aquarium or zoo preferred
  • Biology Degree or related scientific degree preferred 
  • Dive Master or higher professional certification required from a nationally recognized scuba certification agency
  • Active Teaching Status with 1 year of active teaching preferred. 
  • AAUS Scientific Diver or Instructor preferred
  • Equipment repair technician preferred (ScubaPro, OTS Guardian, PSI)
  • Oxygen Administration/ CPR/ First Aid/ AED Instructor certifications preferred
  • Experience with Guest Immersion Programs and Entertainment Dive Shows preferred
  • Must be able to successfully work with partner dive shop A1 Scuba and contract instructional staff on all aspects of Guest Immersion Program.  This includes supervising and training contract staff as appropriate and maintaining the common goals of both entities.
