Education Group Coordinator

The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is an outgrowth of the Dubuque County Historical Society, which also operates the Mathias Ham Historic Site, is home to the National Rivers Hall of Fame, and supports a national outreach program called RiverWorks Discovery.

  • The Education Group Coordinator is the primary liaison between the organization’s educational programs and the public, which include seasonal camps, monthly programs, field trips, outreach programs, distance learning, birthday parties, and overnights.
  • Occasional weekend and evening hours are required.
  • This is a full time, permanent position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Primary duties
  • Prospect, solicit, sell, schedule, coordinate, and close educational program and youth group sales for the organization
  • This includes development of prospect lists, proposals, and contracts, as well as timely facilitation of communication, on-site details, and accounts receivable to parents/guardians, teachers, and outreach sites
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with program participants, host sites or schools, and tourism partners
  • Expectations include professional and timely correspondence, provision of pre-arrival information, on-site needs, and post-program or event evaluation
  • Maintain working knowledge of all educational programming
  • Schedule education department staff as needed to meet program and visitor needs
  • Conduct evaluations of education programming
  • Work with Director of Education and Marketing Department to budget annual sales and marketing plan for all programs
  • Provide input on budget targets for revenue and expenses as they relate to program revenue
  • Create invoices and follow up on accounts receivable monthly
  • Enter sales and group data into database daily and maintain accurate tracking of those served through various programs
  • Provide recommendations on pricing and packaging as applicable
  • Participate in expos, offsite exhibits, or networking events that promote educational programming or the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry
  • Actively seek ideas and keep apprised of best practices in the areas of educational programming and provide recommendations to strengthen and improve efforts in these areas
  • Assist with supervision of the Education department staff and volunteers
  • Ensure staff acts in a cohesive manner
  • Ensure staff follows procedures and upholds the Education Department Code of Conduct
  • Assign responsibilities to Education staff, assist with daily tasks, and provide alternate coverage for team members as needed
  • Coach, motivate, train, and instruct staff and volunteers
  • Act as a visible mentor and role model at all times
  • Provide alternate coverage for other team members as needed
  • Act as Educator On Duty (EOD) as scheduled
  • Attend department meetings
Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a related field, or equivalent experience (such as business, marketing, education)
  • Proven experience in customer service, sales growth, and database management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work successfully with numerous individuals and departments
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficient at computer use and related programs
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language
  • Must be able to perform any physical demands of job duties, either with or without reasonable accommodation
