Education Manager

Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, growth, and regular evaluation of all Education Department Staff and Habitat Interns.

Schedule Educators and Interns to support programs and events.

  • Regularly observe programs and presentations delivered by Educators and Habitat Staff to ensure standards are being exceeded.
  • Supervise education staff on proper animal handling for programs.
  • Write reports and memos and serve as liaison to other departments on Education matters.
  • Perform public relations functions associated with the Education Department.
  • Oversee the selection, development, planning, and implementation of all educational programs, graphics, interactives, and materials.
  • Regularly evaluate all existing educational programming and materials.
  • Stay current with state education standards (TEKS) and update programs to stay aligned with these standards.
  • Review and approve all educational crafts and activities developed by Educator II’s and III’s.
  • Coordinate logistics with other departments for their support of programs and events as needed.
  • Coordinate the development of marketing materials for all educational programming including printed collateral, website content, social media posts, list serves, publications, etc.
  • Oversee the program reservation system(s) and maintain an organized calendar of events.
  • Coordinate Downtown Aquarium’s participation in cooperative programs with AZA and other conservation-oriented institutions.
  • Maintains all official Education Department policies and procedures including those regarding the care and use of live program animals.
  • Manage Education Department budget including labor expenditures.
  • Manages purchasing of educational supplies within budget and with proper authorization.
Experience Required
  • Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in either science or education field required.
  • At least 5 years experience teaching in an informal education setting with at least 2 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience teaching and presenting to a variety of age levels, abilities, and group sizes.
  • Experience writing engaging lesson plans and developing a cohesive curriculum.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation methods and implementation.
  • Certified Interpretive Guide (NAI) required. Current knowledge of developmental learning theories and major national education and interpretation trends.

Salary
  • USD $55,000.00 - USD $65,000.00 /Yr.
