SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Kitchen Steward is responsible for setting-up, cleaning, maintaining and organizing the kitchen and kitchen equipment and acting as a buffet runner and carver during events. They may also assist with light food prep when required.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation for the kitchen and food service work areas and assists with events:
- Clean and organize all dishes and kitchen equipment in Café and outlet kitchen areas
- Clean and organize all dishes and equipment in banquet kitchen and storage areas
- Assist with event set up
- Light prep including peeling/chopping of vegetables and fruits (may be asked to complete simple recipes
Complete all closing duties for the kitchen and banquet offices:
- Clean and sanitize the dishwasher and surrounding areas;
- Sanitize all work stations in the kitchen;
- Sweep and mop the kitchen & cooler floors;
- Take all clean banquet utensils and put them in the proper areas;
- Take out the garbage/compost/cardboard and used cloths to proper receptacles;
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of all coolers and freezer.
Ensure that all deliveries, including incoming materials, products, or supplies are received in good order, and include accurate amounts:
- Verify actual product against packing slips and receiving reports, confirming product integrity, and recording any discrepancies or damages.
- Contact suppliers to resolve missed deliveries, short shipments, product quality issues and pricing discrepancies.
- Deliver processed paperwork to Finance and assisting in resolution of discrepancies.
- Coordinate the distribution of product to appropriate departments.
- Maintain cleanliness of receiving/shipping and storage areas.
- Operate machinery including baler, compactor, and forklift in a safe and proper manner.
- Maintain organizational safety standards.
Ensure the smooth shipping of items outside of the Aquarium:
- Coordinate shipping needs for other departments.
- Clarify shipping process and/or billing needs to complete shipping requests.
- Arrange with various delivery vendors for shipment of packages.
- Maintain shipping records.
Provide support to the retail department:
- Ticket merchandise.
- Assist with inventory audits.
- Transport goods between the Aquarium and our offsite storage facilities.
- Perform other similar duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Food Safe Certification required;
- Hepatitis A vaccination or proof of immunity required;
- Interest in food service and kitchen processes.
- Good time management skills and multi-tasking skills;
- Able to read, write and communicate well;
- Good teamwork skills with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Ability to perform in fast paced high pressure environments.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a fast paced kitchen environment;
- Ability to safely twist, crouch, and stoop while performing job tasks;
- Safe handling and grasping of various kitchen utensils is required;
- Ability to safely lift items weighing up to 20 kg., while simultaneously reaching and stretching, in order to move food products and kitchen equipment;
- Basic knowledge of MS Office; Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Flexibility and availability in schedule are required because the hours of work vary and include working weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings and holidays.
Salary rate at $19.25 per hour
