Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is looking for an individual who wants to be part of a team that plays an important role in the maintenance of our facilities. Regular duties will include, but are not limited to, collection of waste and recyclable materials, general cleaning and disinfecting of receptacles, event setup (table & chairs), and assisting with other maintenance operations as assigned. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Performs routine emptying and cleaning of waste and recyclable material cans and dumpsters throughout Zoo grounds.
- Safely operate a company vehicle on designated routes.
- Pick up and transport waste and recycling materials
- Assist maintenance supervisor with larger seasonal jobs, seasonal decorations, and annual maintenance shutdowns.
- Reports graffiti, vandalism and any other incidents involving the facility, patrons, and participants.
- Operates small tools and equipment to assist in the maintenance/cleaning process. Operates various equipment safely and adheres to all departmental and legal guidelines.
- Follow all safety regulations and company policies
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Provides excellent customer service and maintains effective relationships with fellow workers and the public.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate maintenance/cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to accept direction, exercise initiative and good judgment, attend to detail, follow through independently, and work at an even pace.
- Ability to consistently project a positive, patient, caring and energetic demeanor while being a self-starter and having a strong work ethic.
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be able to provide excellent customer service and positively represent the maintenance department at a public level.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience is required.
- Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Work will be performed outdoors at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.
- Work is performed generally during early morning and late-night hours and requires continuous physical exertion at a fast pace.
- Exposure to a variety of environmental elements, including dust, noise, animal dander, and other irritants.
- Work required almost constant physical activity, including walking, running, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, lifting and carrying various supplies, equipment and other materials i.e. tables, chairs, commercial cleaning equipment, materials and supplies. Pushing and pulling is required while mopping, moving furniture, equipment and fixtures, operating floor equipment, handling trash barrels vacuums, and mop buckets.
- Requires repetitive foot, arm, shoulder, hand and back movements to perform maintenance/cleaning duties and operation of equipment.
- While performing the duties, the incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle feel or operate objects or supplies and equipment. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of equipment.
- Incumbents will be required to do repetitive lifting, moving and carrying objects unassisted up to 75 lbs.
- Work is performed in a highly public setting and requires interaction with a variety of people.
Additional Requirements:
- An incumbent will be required to work varied hours during the week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform additional duties and/or assume other responsibilities as directed by Supervisor or Facilities Operations Manager.
