The Shedd Aquarium is seeking a dynamic Recruiting Manager to join their team! The Manager of Recruitment & Culture will report directly to the Senior Director of Human Resources. The primary responsibility of this role is to build and maintain a diverse workforce of high-performing individuals. The focus of this position is on talent acquisition through managing the entire recruitment process. The Manager will support the implementation of a strategic plan for recruiting and outreach to multicultural candidates. To be a successful candidate for this role, technological proficiency, strong written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and discretion are essential.

The Manager will have experience working with a high volume of requisitions and a passion for developing and executing inclusive hiring strategies.  Additionally, it is crucial that the Manager has experience nurturing relationships with prospective talent, managing connections with external diverse partners, and establishing relationships with new partners. Must be able to work positively and productively with all levels of employees across the organization.

  • Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s mission and values 
  • Develop and execute recruiting strategies and programs to attract and hire diverse candidates. 
  • Conduct regular meetings with hiring managers to discuss recruitment and anticipated workforce needs.  
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with leaders, partners, and community organizations to create strong partnerships.
  • In partnership with the Senior Director, create recruiting plans with identified key deliverables & timelines and hold leaders accountable for progress. 
  • Serve as a partner to the DEAI Steering team, hiring managers, and senior leaders on integrating inclusive hiring practices into our recruiting operations.  
  • Partner with leadership & staff to design, redesign, implement, support, and evolve recruitment policies, processes, and practices centering on equity and inclusivity. 
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day full-cycle recruitment and hiring, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. 
  • Implement sourcing methods, advise on interviewing techniques, and build professional networks.
  • Monitor key recruitment metrics to identify and resolve issues affecting recruiting procedures
  • Provide department, business, and senior leaders with monthly/quarterly recruiting metrics (e.g. time-to-fill, cost per hire, etc)
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately while interacting with employees at all levels in a professional and productive way. 
  • Regularly attend conferences, seminars, job fairs and other industry events to network and develop long-lasting professional relationships
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications: 
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, human resources, or combination of experience and education/training. 
  • Certified Diversity Professional or related diversity certification preferred. 
Experience: 
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of progressive full cycle recruitment 
  • Experience sourcing and recruiting diverse talent and building diversity recruiting strategies 
  • A proven track record of driving innovation and results for DE&I recruiting. 
  • Experience handling a high volume of requisitions 
  • Success utilizing data and analytics to inform and optimize recruiting strategies, influence hiring managers and senior leaders, and understand market trends to inform decisions. 
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork skills, and the ability to think and write creatively. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state, EEOC and nondiscrimination laws and regulations.
  • Experience designing, implementing, sustaining, and advancing diversity and inclusion programs and training. 
  • The ideal candidate should be able to make sound recruitment decisions as well as demonstrate excellent communication, management and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on experience with Applicant Tracking Systems and HR databases
  • Sound knowledge of labor legislation and HR practices
