Based on our internal equity review process, the starting salary for this position will be $113,112.40 yearly To allow for growth and salary progression the full salary range is $113,112.40 - $154,849.99 annually. Employees will have the opportunity to move through the posted range based on annual performance reviews and merit increases.

Position Information
- The Marketing, Communications & Corporate Relations Manager reports to the Director of Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.
- This position develops strategic marketing and communications plans; ensures that communication enhances mission and brand; helps identify new revenue opportunities; oversees market research, advertising, media relations, corporate sponsorship programs, and manages integrated internal and external marketing and communications deliverables to meet the current and future financial needs of the department.
- The manager focuses on data-driven decision-making, including strategies for leveraging information about market conditions, competitor data, and other business intelligence, to develop and implement effective strategic marketing and communications plans.
- The position is a member of the senior leadership team of the department and serves on the District’s Marketing and Communications leadership team.

- The primary responsibility of the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park Marketing and Communications Manager is to ensure the continued success and growth of the organization's mission.
- Provide strategic direction and active leadership with the goal of developing and maintaining innovative, sustainable and equitable service.

Essential Duties
- Revenue, Budgeting & Contracts
- Have primary responsibility and accountability for providing ongoing support to ensure that programs meet their revenue goals and objectives.
- Oversee marketing budget, including staffing, purchase of paid media, contracting with and supervising specialized media buyers; advertising and market research firms; freelance graphic designers, writers, photographers and videographers; event promoters (both internal and external);and creative and promotional materials
Marketing & Digital Media
- Develop and manage sales/marketing/advertising strategies and campaigns that meet or exceed goals and objectives.
- Evaluate customer research, survey data, market conditions, and competitor data and incorporate findings into marketing and communications strategic plans. Use market research and other business intelligence to evaluate and improve effectiveness of advertising and promotions.
- Oversee SEM, SEO and display advertising and approve media buys.
- Oversee digital communications efforts, including web sites, social media channels, electronic communication and onsite marketing digital signage; supervise the development and execution of effective storytelling.
- Oversee brands and evolve them as needed to align with the strategic plan and support guest/community expectations.
- Strategic Communications, Crisis Communications & Media Relations
- Plan, direct and evaluate external communications programs, including the development of strategic communications and messaging to support key department and districtwide objectives.
- Collaborate with external partner organizations to develop and execute strategic communications plans in support of joint projects, programs and initiatives.
- Manage crisis and emergency communications and supervise communications to board, staff, partners and media. Provide oversight and direction on media relations.
- Provide media relations and public relations counsel to the department director and management team.
- Plan, organize and promote facility and exhibit grand openings, special events and community celebrations.
- Corporate Sponsorships & Public Affairs
- Provide oversight and guidance to effectively manage collaborations and relationships with corporate, community and state partners.
- Oversee department's corporate sales program and staff in support of department/District sponsorship revenue goals. Review and approve corporate sponsorship agreements and supervise execution of deliverables.
- Develop and implement effective communications messaging for priority conservation initiatives at the state, local and federal levels.
- Foster and grow partnerships with local and state organizations to support and advance strategic goals.
- Collaborate with the District marketing and communications team to ensure a strong community perception of the District.
- Leadership, Coaching & Supervision
- Lead, plan and direct the work of the marketing, communications and corporate relations team.
- Recruit, hire and coach team members to achieve performance goals and evaluate performance,
- Engage team members in decision-making; and facilitate their individual professional growth.
- District-wide Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with the District marketing and communications leadership team to support and advance districtwide goals and objectives.
- Cross-promote programs, activities and events.
- Communicate with the Board and senior leaders; support the development of presentations to the Board, community organizations and community members.
Experience Required
- Minimum of seven years of marketing, sales, communications or related experience, including at least three years managing staff, programs and budgets.
- Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Marketing, Communications or Business.
- An additional 4 years of related experience can substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.
- Prior zoo, aquarium, museum, or conservation sector experience desired.
