SUMMARY:
As the Mascot Performer, you'll be the beloved ambassador of the Vancouver Aquarium, creating memorable experiences for visitors of all ages. This energetic, family-friendly mascot position plays a vital role in our mission to connect people with marine life while promoting conservation education in a fun and engaging way. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Engage with employees, guests, and community members in a friendly, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
- Promote a positive image of the organization through entertaining and interactive performances.
- Pose for photos, participate in social media content creation, and support marketing initiatives.
- Participate in scheduled meet-and-greets, special events, parades, and community outreach activities.
- Support the aquarium's educational messaging through character-appropriate gestures and actions.
- Assist with promoting aquarium programs and conservation initiatives.
- Maintain the mascot costume's condition and cleanliness.
- Follow all safety guidelines and performance protocols while in costume.
- Maintain the mascot costume by reporting any damage, cleanliness concerns, or required repairs.
- Assist with event setup, teardown, and other event-related duties when not performing as the mascot.
- Work collaboratively with event coordinators, marketing teams, and other staff to ensure successful event execution.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous mascot, character performance, or entertainment experience preferred.
- Exceptional non-verbal communication skills and physical expressiveness.
- Ability to maintain high energy levels while performing and wearing a costume for 30–45-minute intervals.
- Height between 5'5" and 5'10" to properly fit the Ollie costume.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings as required.
- Team player who works well with the guest experience, education and events team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Part-time, Contract
- Primarily weekends, holidays and special events
- Flexible hours based on promotional schedules
- Primarily indoor environment at the Vancouver Aquarium, with occasional outdoor events
- Costume could be warm and will require physical stamina
- Standing and walking for extended periods
