Position Summary:

Job duties of the Georgia Aquarium Diver I, Dive Maintenance are Part Time and specific to Working Dives.  The diver will assume a role of working diver under the regulations for commercial diving as outline by OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart T.  Commercial-oriented diving tasks shall include, but not be limited to deployment, moving and retrieving of heavy objects; using heavy hand or power tools; the inspection, maintenance, and repair of aquarium exhibits; the application and repair of underwater coatings and liners, and; other tasks NOT exempt from OSHA’s commercial diving regulations.  Further, the Diver I, Dive Maintenance shall be required to work with a diverse team of divers in the implementation of dive safety procedures and guidelines ensuring safety at the facility and offshore.

  Responsibilities:

  1. Participates in professional development as needed.
  2. Assist with instruction and training of all diving personnel; sharing knowledge with others in a team
  3. Meets all applicable requirements as outlined in Georgia Aquarium’s Diving Operations and Procedures Manual.
  4. Adheres to dive safety policies and procedures.
  5. Maintains, inspects, and repairs dive equipment ensuring all is within the proper operating parameters to provide a safe working environment for the divers.
  6. Maintains preventative maintenance on breathable air systems while maintaining precise records.
  7. Helps to ensure that all divers are following policies set forth by the Dive Control Board.
  8. Perform both working and scientific dives in support of the program mission on a regular basis.
  9. Take active role in the aquarium’s exhibit maintenance and repair program, which will include, leak detection and repair via applied injection techniques and underwater acrylic restoration polishing.
  10. Assist Zoological Operations and Life Support Systems staff in the repairs and modifications of the LSS systems.
  11. Assist with the inventory of all related diving equipment and parts.
  12. Maintain the highest standards of work area cleanliness at all times.
  13. Interface effectively with other departments to maintain the highest standards of quality.
  14. As needed, interact on behalf of Georgia Aquarium, with guests, media, public, etc.
  15. Perform other duties as workload necessitates.
  16. Effectively express ideas verbally and non-verbally and actively listen to individuals and groups.
  17. Expresses ideas clearly and concisely in written form using letters, reports, and other documents.
