The New England Aquarium is home to five California sea lions and five Atlantic harbor seals. We are currently seeking an animal care professional to provide support for our marine mammal colony, join in the advancement of our enrichment and training program, provide for the highest level of welfare for the animals in our care in accordance with AZA, USDA and New England Aquarium standards, and to educate our visitors about the need to conserve their wild counterparts through our presentations and one on one guest engagement.   • This is a full-time regular position offering a comprehensive benefits package.
  • The schedule will be four 10-hour shifts.
  • The typical hours are 7a - 6p EST with some flexibility on start and end times. Candidates must be able to work at least one weekend day per week as well as some holidays, nights, and respond to emergencies at all hours.
  • Work must be conducted on-site.
  • The level of the position will be determined by each candidate's level of experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Training and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in science preferred.
  • 1 years of experience with animal training is required.
  • Marine mammal husbandry experience is required.
  • Strong collaborator, willing to work with a team, able to adapt quickly to changing situations, strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate level math skills for rapid unit conversions, addition/subtraction of fractions, decimals and whole numbers up to 5 places, without needing a calculator.
  • Proficient with record keeping software in Microsoft Office and can readily transfer to other record keeping software.
  • Possession of or willingness to acquire an internationally recognized SCUBA diving certification within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain Medical Examiner's authorization to SCUBA dive in accordance with the NEAQ Diving Program.
