The North Carolina Aquariums on Roanoke Island is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Public Programs Educator. This position is responsible for developing and presenting educational programs to the public and aquarium visitors, school groups, and special interest groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and giving public programs using live animals.
- Participating in and creating new programs and special events for the public.
- Utilizing and troubleshooting technology and A/V equipment to develop and conduct presentations.
- Assist education staff with data entry and participate in weekly meetings.
- Interpret scientific information, animals, and exhibits at touch pools, in theater, outdoor spaces, and other areas of the aquarium.
- Evaluating education programs for effectiveness.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate interns, volunteers, and seasonal education staff.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Education Curator.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.

- In order to qualify for this position, you must meet ALL the following requirements listed below:
- Experience in developing and presenting mission-based engaging educational programs.
- Experience with evaluating and refining educational programming and projects.
- Experience handling and presenting live ambassador animals in a professional setting.
- Experience using audiovisual equipment, touch tablets, and computer systems.
- Must be CPR/First Aid certified or have the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Must have a valid NC driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Experience Required

- Conservation,
- Education,
- History or Zoology
- from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of museum
- or related work;
- or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
