The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Full-time Safety Manager to establish, implement, oversee, and enforce effective workplace health and safety programs, ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and AZA regulations/standards, and to foster a culture of safety awareness and compliance to ensure the welfare of employees, volunteers, guests, contractors, and vendors.
- The Safety Manager is key in developing, updating, delivering, and maintaining employee training, record-keeping, safety incident investigations and mitigation, safety and fire inspections, the Zoo’s emergency management plan, and general compliance to meet OSHA requirements.
- This role will also oversee the inventory of PPE, Safety Data Sheets, and First Aid equipment/supplies on a routine basis.
- This position reports to the Vice President of Security and Safety Operations.
- This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires time worked in excess of forty hours per week.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Requires an associate degree in safety or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Or, equivalent work experience.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Two years of safety experience or two years of work experience in a related field required.
- Knowledgeable in OSHA safety regulations. OSHA certification and COSS certification preferred.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, safety management software and reporting tools.
- Requires flexibility in work scheduling to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
