Security Officer

Reports to:            Security Supervisor
Status:                   Full-time or Part-time positions available, hourly, eligible for overtime.  These are benefit eligible positions. 
Hours of work:      Set weekly schedule. Occasional need for weekend or after-hours work as related to events and other projects, or additional coverage.

The Seattle Aquarium, a leading marine conservation organization, is looking for Security Guards to join the team. The overall duty of a security guard Is to protect the Aquarium property, employees, and guests. Monitor Aquarium property, provide guest service, and document incidents during their shift. While on duty, promote Seattle Aquarium safety and security policies. Works as part of the security team, escalating security concerns to the Security Supervisor. 

Key functions

  • Provide quick, confident responses to all radio calls related to security.
  • Run missing child procedures in accordance with Seattle Aquarium policy.
  • Assist with deliveries and shipping.
  • Frequent patrols of both Indoor and outdoor areas of both Aquarium piers, and Market Square office across the street.
  • Respond to difficult Interactions with guests and members of the public with an eye for de-escalation.
  • Respond promptly to alarms.
  • Interact with staff, volunteers, and guests daily with the goal of delivering excellent customer service to all audiences.
  • Draft reports of daily activities and Irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Respond to medical emergencies by administering basic first aid, or by obtaining assistance from paramedics.
  • Provide crowd control support under the direction of the floor lead.
  • Consult with the Seattle Police Department In the event of 911 calls.
  • Participate in Seattle Aquarium trainings.
  • Ability to convey Information effectively.
  • Uphold Seattle Aquarium's S.A.L.I.S.H values, to foster an Inclusive community for staff, guests, and all who engage with the security team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required skills and experience
 We will consider various combinations of relevant experience and education to meet minimum requirements.

  • 1-2 years' experience in security
  • Prior customer service experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to receive CPR/First Aid/AED training within the first 60 days of hire.
Working conditions

  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to conduct regular walking foot patrols.
  • Ability to go outside in variable weather conditions.
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work with the public, sometimes in heavy crowds.
  • Work is conducted on the Aquarium floor.
