The Senior Accountant role is an integral part of the Aquarium’s Finance team, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of revenue entries, reconciliation of bank and balance sheet accounts, and supporting and managing monthly close tasks for the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Revenue Entries
- Check bank daily for ACH/credit activity and share accordingly with teams
- Manage and book weekly philanthropy online and check batches in coordination with Philanthropy team
- Book weekly consignment entries
- Process and book monthly partner commission revenue entries
- Review and correctly assign entries for miscellaneous EFTs
- Review revenue processes for the above and make improvements as recognized and needed
Reconciliations
- Manages and performs monthly bank general ledger reconciliations
- Manages and performs balance sheet reconciliations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, accrued expenses, deferred revenue
- Provide recommendations on entries based off reconciliation process
- Assists with Month End Close, Audit, and 990 Filings
- Responsible for inputting monthly journal entries such as ASC 842 lease, prepaid, investment, and insurance entries
- Prepares and reviews various financial schedules monthly and yearly for audit and 990s
- Provide support for annual audit and 990 questions as needed
- Finance Administration
- Monitor Finance team inbox
- Handle and distribute finance team mail as needed
- Provide accounting detail for insurance applications, philanthropy grant submissions, and other internal or external requests for financial data
- Provide accounting assistance to managers and operations staff; investigates and responds to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs
- Support with quarterly reforecast and annual budget process
- Other duties as assigned and needed within the team
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience, CPA preferred
- Minimum 1-3 years Accounting experience required, public accounting or non-profit experience preferred
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Self-starter, ability to work independently and problem-solve
- Ability to effectively collaborate within a team and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong attention to detail, organization and communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel required, Outlook, and Sage Intacct preferred
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience, CPA preferred
- Minimum 1-3 years Accounting experience required, public accounting or non-profit experience preferred
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
