We are seeking a skilled Senior Building Engineer to contribute to the effective operations of our facilities, with the potential to advance to a Lead Engineer role.
- In this position, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving our facilities.
- Responsibilities include supporting the oversight of the engineering department, troubleshooting, repairing electrical and plumbing systems, and managing various control systems in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- This role reports directly to the Building Engineering Supervisor.
Duties, Responsibilities, and Essential Functions (included but not limited to):
- Supports various building engineering projects including, but not limited to, public buildings, animal holding areas, animal displays, offices, and visitor areas. Conducts
- daily property inspections and performs repairs as needed.
- Performs daily preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter replacement, checking and replacing v-belts, bearing greasing, and coil cleaning.
- Performs reactive maintenance on HVAC systems such as bearing and seal replacement, pulley adjustment and replacement, motor and pump repair or replacement, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Handles the daily operations, troubleshooting, and repairs of all HVAC systems and controls, elevator systems, life safety systems, and emergency power systems.
- Works with and escorts outside contractors as needed.
- Responds immediately to emergencies and work orders.
- Complies with all applicable codes and organizational policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Third Grade Stationary Engineer’s license or the ability to obtain one within one year.
- Five years or more of experience in commercial or industrial maintenance or equivalent experience and education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, building controls, elevators, life safety systems, emergency power systems, and basic electrical and plumbing skills.
- Experience maintaining mechanical equipment including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handling equipment, mini-split systems, VRF systems, pumps, and motors.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with a Building Management System (BMS); experience with Schneider products are preferred.
- Strong human relations and effective communication skills.
- Ability to use a computer to complete daily tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work as a team or independently.
- Ability to interpret and analyze documents such as blueprints, wiring schematics, and control sequences.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to maintain it.
- Willingness to work weekends, extended hours and overtime for priority/emergencies (including overtime assignments).
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop kneel and crouch. Must have the ability to lift and move 50 lbs.
- Frequently exposed to water, chemicals, loud noises, dust, animal dander, etc.
- Must be able to traverse zoo grounds on foot.
- Occasionally exposed to potentially adverse weather conditions.
