STEM Pathways Coordinator
The STEM Pathway Coordinator is responsible for coordinating details and maintaining relationships associated with the Aquarium’s STEM Pathways portfolio. With a goal of broadening participation in STEM, marine science, and work related to the Aquarium, the STEM Pathway programs include paid internships, career tours with Long Beach Unified School District, Family Science Nights, the scholar program and symposium, a partnership with Lakewood High School, and more. This position lives within the education department but works across Aquarium teams including events, development, marketing, volunteer services, and others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Coordinate directly with external partners, including teachers, administrators, community-based organizations, and others regarding program logistics for Family Science Night, Scholar Symposium, Career Tours, and other efforts that serve targeted priority audiences.
- Work to increase the representation of historically underrepresented communities in Aquarium- produced career connection series, assets, and media.
- Help to integrate STEM Pathway programs into the interpretation and program teams of the Education department, as well as across the Aquarium.
- Support the evaluation process of STEM Pathway programs. Activities may include defining metrics, crafting instruments, working with third party evaluators, and implementing strategies. Communicate metrics to senior staff, Board, and other Aquarium departments as needed.
- Serve as a resource for volunteers and interns, and their supervisors across the Aquarium.
- Establish and maintain relationships with scholars and paid interns to foster the growing community of program participants.
- Coordinate Aquarium visits, gatherings, exchange of resources, and networking opportunities in-person and online, including the social media Discord channel.
- Engage in the ongoing dialog around opportunities to support diversity, equity, and inclusion practices across the Aquarium.
- Facilitate the Aquarium’s annual KultureCity certification through communication with staff members across the organization and tracking training progress.
- Contribute to the various aspects of the application and selection process for student scholarships awarded by the Aquarium, including communication with the selection committee.
- Participate as needed in the Education Department’s daily operations.
- Work with management to plan strategies that can be used to continually evaluate and update programs.
- Flexibility to assist in various tasks at management’s discretion.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

- Strong communication skills to transmit information to staff, other departments, volunteers, visitors, and program participants with enthusiasm.
- Outstanding time management and organizational skills to concurrently work on multiple projects with multiple collaborators.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills while interacting with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races.
- Committed to broadening participation in marine science among historically underrepresented communities.
- Comfort with Microsoft 365 including word, PowerPoint, and excel. Computer skills and experience with Google Docs desired.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in ocean or biological sciences, environmental science, education, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in formal/informal education setting or in a zoo/ aquarium/museum/non-profit setting
- Interest in marine science and work related to the Aquarium
- Demonstrated ability to reflect on and improve upon job performance.
