Provide water chemistry support for all animal aquatic habitats at The Florida Aquarium (TFA), the Aquarium’s Center for Conservation and other offsite aquatic exhibits. Work closely with the life support, animal care and animal health teams to ensure a cohesive water quality management culture and philosophy.
Essential Position Duties
- Support TFA with water chemistry analyses for all marine and freshwater aquatic systems.
- Understand and interpret water chemistry reports and results; work with Water Quality and Animal Care teams to carry out corrections.
- Maintain current and accurate water quality records.
- Maintain water quality analytical equipment and keep appropriately stocked inventory of consumable supplies and reagents.
- Monitor equipment and processes for normal operation and make changes as needed.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance as needed to keep equipment in excellent working condition.
- Interface effectively with other departments to maintain the highest quality standards.
- Follow and maintain all safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain highest standard of work area cleanliness at all times.
- Available on-call for emergencies relating to water quality operations. Must also be available for after-hours or weekend water quality monitoring as needed to support The Florida Aquarium water quality operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Education, Requirements, and Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: biology or chemistry, or 2+ years of experience in a water quality laboratory.
- Have a strong understanding of the nitrogen cycle.
- AALSO Water Quality Level 1 certification preferred.
