Our Watershed Conservation Assistant will assist with the development and implementation of the Ridges to Rivers project, a grant-funded project that will help bridge the gap between terrestrial and aquatic conservation by creating new partnerships with regional land trusts. Compile information about land use practices and ways to protect freshwater health. Provide implementation recommendations for land trust and land owners on best management practices, and provide assistance with other tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in land management and best management practices
- Research innovative water quality programs around the country
- Prepare written documents for land trusts and landowners
- Assist with education to land trust staff and landowners
- Assist with field work on partners' properties
- Interact with other Conservation Institute science staff to support ongoing research projects
- Occasional assistance with education department and conservation science outreach programs
- Perform other duties as needed
Key Requirements
- Background knowledge in terrestrial and/or aquatic conservation is preferred
- GIS experience is preferred
- Graphic Design experience is helpful.
- Good working knowledge of computers, frequent use of Excel and Word
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
- Educational/Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Undergraduate degree in environmental science, biology or a related field preferred
