Veterinarian Technician

What you’ll do:

  • As a member of the Husbandry team, you will lead by example by being patient, kind, humble, respectful, selfless, forgiving, honest, and committed when interacting with one another and guests
  • Performs routine animal health diagnostic procedures such as hematology, cytology, necropsies, and water quality analysis
  • Participates and assists the veterinarian and husbandry staff in administering treatments
  • Assists the veterinarian in radiological, ultrasonographic, endoscopic, and surgical procedures
  • Helps maintain the medical records database
  • Keeps work area clean and organized and reports equipment failures to supervisors in a timely way
  • Cross-trains and assists in Husbandry department activities when needed
  • Ability to organize, manage time, and set priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Participates in aquarium-related education, public relations, and passport programs, including facility tours and lectures
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality
  • Comply with safety and security directives, policies and procedures
  • This position has been identified as Safety Critical with authorized operator requirements. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Completion of a veterinary technology program or equivalent experience as a full-time veterinary technician and licensed in the state of New Jersey. 
  • Two to three years of veterinary technician experience. Experience in a zoo or an aquarium is desirable. 
  • Experience monitoring anesthesia is desirable 
  • Rabies vaccinated 
  • Experience with medical record software and proficiency with Microsoft Office products and standard PC operating systems is recommended. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include weekends and/or evenings and holidays. 
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record.

    Special Requirements:

    • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening. 
    • In good health and capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor. 
    • No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work. 
    • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop. 
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions. 
    • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work. 
    • Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 
    • Immunocompetence (possible exposure to infections and parasitic diseases). 

     

    Note: This position will involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potentially hazardous machinery, restraint devices, and toxic chemicals and drugs.  Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required. (e.g., Goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns)
